Get Rid of Excess Toxins: Solutions to Managing Weight and Focusing the Mind with the Help of Detox

Get Rid of Excess Toxins: Solutions to Managing Weight and Focusing the Mind with the Help of DetoxAs recently as 10 years ago, no one knew what “detox” was or how it worked. Today, this body cleansing system is an effective solution, leading to having a simplified weight loss system, supporting  the circulatory and digestive systems, and getting rid of negative thoughts, perceptions and attitudes in life. To tell us all about detox and how it works, is Coral Club North America expert Dr. Cheryl Reifer, PhD, RD, Director of Scientific Affairs.

Detox (or detoxification) is a comprehensive approach that includes the right balance of nutrition, staying properly hydrated, and, of course, assisting the work of the body's excretory (waste elimination) systems. According to Dr. Cheryl Reifer, “Detoxification is a key component to health and well-being.  We are overloaded with toxic compounds–pollution, pesticides, household products–more—and we need solutions such as additional detoxification support. Following detox,  it is important to continue healthy eating habits to maintain weight management practices.”

Day “X”: When to Start Detox

Most often, the need for detox arises when the reserve excretory systems of the body, which include the lungs and skin, need support to rid the body of accumulated toxins. Simply put, we need to detox when the excretory systems of the body are overloaded.

Due to external exposure, these toxins may manifest themselves and lead to various resulting issues.  For example,  toxins in the skin impact the ability of the skin barrier to function properly, which affects the ability of the skin cells to stay intact, which leads to too much water loss and affects the health of the skin.  Another issue is the effect of toxins on the respiratory system, which when not working at efficiency, is not as effective at ridding the body of waste products.  Toxins may be stored in our fat cells, bone, and soft tissues, which then negatively impacts our health.

All of these factors suggest that it is time to switch to support mode and start a detox program. Many myths are associated with detox; in particular that it can only be done in special clinics and centers. However, this isn’t exactly the case. It is possible, and even necessary at times, to conduct a detox program on your own – but subject to a systematic approach and after consulting with a doctor. In this case, the cleansing of the body should be treated not as a “one-time” event, but as a periodic ongoing part of taking care of your health.

How to Manage Your Well-being During a Detox

When starting a detox, be prepared for the fact that once the same things that affected us when we were not in our wellness state can manifest themselves again. This is quite understandable: with a long-term accumulation of toxins, the body may store deposits in adipose tissue (as mentioned previously).  These are a kind of “compost pit” where “waste” accumulated over a lifetime is stored. When cleaning, the largest “pests” for the body are first removed, and then the rest of the “garbage” is also cleaned. During this process it is important to stay hydrated.

Dr. Albert Zer, a well-known Canadian scientist, doctor of medical sciences, and nutritionist, has been studying global cleansing practices for 30 years (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHbvmZe7PQM).  This resulted in the creation of his own unique Colo-Vada (Go Detox) program. The program is completely natural, and therefore considered safe for the body in healthy individuals or individuals who have consulted with their physician or healthcare practitioner. In addition, it includes an antiparasitic program and is simple and convenient to use.

The mild cleansing of the body (using natural methods such as Go Detox Light), does not disturb the intestinal microflora. This is a sharp contrast to mechanical cleansing of the intestines using various enemas, hydrocolonic therapy, and similar procedures. Such an “aggressive effect” can disrupt the intestinal microflora, resulting in a serious problem for the body.

Of course, exposing oneself to positive health practices, such as breathing mountain air, eating organic fresh vegetables, drinking water from a stream, and not having the stresses or environmental exposures of modern society is ideal. However, this may not always be possible. Another resolution then is to show conscious concern for one's health, even while living a fast-paced life in a big city. First of all, you need to start with the simplest thing – cleaning your “home” (referring to your body). When you start the program, you will not notice how everything superfluous, including toxins, will quickly become a thing of the past. The benefits of this program include an easy way to manage weight, to get a jump start on nutrition, to have a positive outlook, and a healthier gut, all of which were lacking and causing interference with having a happy and healthy lifestyle.

Some tips to support your body’s natural detox system include:

  • Eat foods that help promote a healthy gut – i.e. naturally fermented foods, like kimchi, sauerkraut, and yogurt
  • Eat 5 to 9 servings of vegetables and fruits per day
  • Include foods that support detoxification pathways, such as green tea, berries, and garlic
  • Consume lean protein sources
  • Stay hydrated with clean water

Before you start a cleanse or detox program, please consult with your physician or healthcare practitioner. Detox programs are not recommended for nursing or pregnant women.
